For the LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Initiative (The Lance Armstrong Foundation), Australia’s top digital influencers banded together. Bloggers who had survived cancer; doctor/research bloggers and political bloggers all stepped up for a discussion on the control, prevention, and fight against cancer. Outreach to these influencers resulted in widespread national coverage which delivered tangible results. As a result of the initiative, South Australian Premier Mike Rann tripled the money raised during Lance’s visit to Australia and announced a new Cancer Research Centre to be named after LIVESTRONG. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd also announced $3.8 million in new funding for cancer research and endorsed Lance Armstrong and the LIVESTRONG global campaign in his national e-newsletter, KevinPM, and on his YouTube channel.
