Kieran Moore named a media leader

Kieran Moore, Ogilvy Public Relations Australia’s CEO, has been named one of Australia’s top ten most influential women in media. Female leaders shaping the landscape featured in The Australian newspaper, broadsheet and online, on August 29, and looked at 50 of Australia’s female leaders working in the media.

The top 50 included women from industries including magazines, newspapers, digital, marketing and advertising, radio, television, production and film and related industries and bodies.

Ogilvy PR is the only public relations company mentioned and Kieran the only public relations practitioner. The article states “Moore believes the Ogilvy PR concept of having a number of specialist agencies under the one banner allows deeper specialisation”.

The Australian newspaper is one of only two national newspapers with a readership of 432,000. It is recognised as a leader in the media.

Ogilvy PR welcomes students from the University of Wollongong

Ogilvy PR Australia, as part of its commitment in developing stronger relationships with the Australian academic community, has spent the last week working with public relations students from the University of Wollongong.

The consultancy hosted 20 students in our offices in Sydney giving them a whistlestop tour of the company and what we do. Students heard from the CEO, Kieran Moore, as well as senior representatives across the organisation, giving them an insight in to our practices at Ogilvy PR, trends we’re seeing in the industry and some of the fantastic work delivered by our teams. They were also given the opportunity to meet one of our clients and participate in a question and answer session to understand the differences between in-house communication teams and agency life.

This open day follows a guest lecture delivered last week by Lex Deasley, Creative Director for Ogilvy’s consumer and brand agency, Pulse Communications.  Lex visited Wollongong University to present a guest lecture to public relations students, entitled Creativity in PR. It was designed to give a broad overview of a topic that many people seem to find confusing, and reinforce the point that creativity is defined by the process rather than the result.

Starting with challenging perceptions on what defines creativity generally, the topic shifted to examine why now, more than ever, creativity is essential to the PR industry by looking at real-life examples of how the market place is changing.

Focusing on the influencers of creativity, students were then taken through ‘the triumvirate of doom’, the three dominant factors preventing us from being more creative in our everyday lives, and shown things we can do to turn ourselves in to creative superstars.

The lecture was designed to engage the students and help them to prove many points which were being made through games and tests. Lex ran an interactive and entertaining session, which held students attention for a full hour, in a dark room, while the sun shone outside.

We’d like to wish the students the best of luck with the rest of their studies, and look forward to welcoming them in to our internship program, and the public relations industry.

Ogilvy PR’s Pulse gets gong for creative kitchen

Ogilvy PR’s leading consumer and brand agency, Pulse Communications, has been recognised for its innovative work to put Malaysian cuisine on the map in Australia, last night receiving a State Award for Excellence from the NSW branch of the PRIA.

The ‘ Special Events/Observance’ category award specifically recognised  Pulse for the creation of the Malaysia Kitchen Australia, an event that transformed Sydney’s State Theatre Laneway into Australia’s first ever Malaysia Kitchen Food Market.

Malaysia Kitchen Australia was part of a broader campaign undertaken by Pulse in conjunction with MATRADE (Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation), aimed at raising awareness and consideration of Malaysian cuisine in Australia.

Pulse will now be on the shortlist to receive a national PRIA Golden Target Award in the ‘Special Event/Observance’ category, with winners announced at a Gala Dinner held in conjunction with the PRIA’s National Conference, on 24 and 25 October.

Pulse MD Matt Buchanan said the entire team was thrilled with the formal recognition “The Malaysia Kitchen Australia program is a very exciting and rewarding project for us and we’re thrilled that it’s been recognised in the state PRIA awards. It’s a well deserved win by a very hard working and dedicated team who are committed to making Australian’s as passionate about Malaysian cuisine as we are.”

Another team from Ogilvy PR was also up for an award at last night’s event.  Howorth was shortlisted for the Business-to-Business Marketing category in the awards, for its work on the Telstra Productivity Indicator for Telstra Enterprise and Government (TE&G).

    Trumpet winners

This week, we announced our first trumpet winners. The Trumpets is our formal employee recognition program launched in May this year. Our company culture is built on our three core Values – Partnership, Learn & Grow and One Step ahead, and the program recognises values-based behaviours across the whole business – from great client work to the way we work with each other and aligned with our social and environmental commitments.

A very big congratulations to the winners for this quarter:

Skye Lambley – Learn & Grow, nominated by Kieran Moore

“Her motto, “Not sure how to do it, but I will give it a crack” means that she is not scared of tackling new areas and new approaches.  She doesn’t default to what’s been done before but applies this “new thinking” to a whole series of challenges.   As a result of this attitude and her commitment to solutions, she embodies the value of learn and grow.”

Sabrina Herbrik – Partnership, nominated by Tam Sandeman

“Partnership for us, at only 23, has been through her outstanding nose for new business.  She has proactively built relationships and sought opportunities across the organisation. Unasked, she did it.  Partnership is exemplary in every way.”

Rudolf Wagenaar – One Step Ahead, nominated by Marie-Claire Suter

“Rudolf has gone above and beyond the call of duty at work. He’s worked hard on areas that he needs to improve such as his writing and being more strategic in his approach to communications and always seeks and accepts help when appropriate. Quite simply, he’s been the lifeblood of the team in FY11.”

We look forward to the next round in December.

    And the winners are…

    July 15, 2011 by

We are very excited to announce the winners of our first Ogilvy PR Finishing School School competition, Nidhi Paul and Sam Leetham.

We asked students and graduates to tell us in 100 words what they think the biggest challenge for the communications industry will be in the next 10 years.

Nidhi answered: “For every credibility gap there is a gullibility gap.” – Richard Cobden – British Statesman. The PR industry will face a crisis of credibility in the coming decade. Astroturfing, creating fake news and false marketing have reinforced the mistrust and negative image of the PR industry. This will ultimately make it harder for PR practitioners to influence public opinion in the future. Transparency and accountability should be made compatible with the client’s needs. While the truth may not always set you free, packaging the truth to make it palatable for the target audience is what public relations should be about.

And Sam answered: There’s a new “generation” on the block. Forget X and Y Generation C are taking over the world one blog, photo, video, status, tag and tweet at a time. GC is the content hungry creative and connected community who have the technical toolbox to both produce and virally broadcast a powerful opinion to their followers and subscribers. Today everyone is a content curator and digital adventurer. The challenge for the PR industry is to depart from the proven reach, visibility and measurability of more traditional platforms and to create cut-through conversations and to foster brand loyalty with this digital collective.

Nidhi will join us in Sydney and Sam in Melbourne for an exciting week including training, career advice, ‘Brand You’ development, practice interviews, and the chance to meet the team and learn about each of the Ogilvy PR disciplines (brand and consumer, business to business, technology, public affairs, internal communications, digital influence, sustainability communications, social marketing and research). We’re also providing a $500 gift voucher for the their first corporate wardrobes.

Congratulations Nidhi and Sam, see you on 25th July!

Parker & Partners Wins Atticus Award

June 27, 2011: Parker & Partners, Australia’s leading bi partisan public affairs agency and part of Ogilvy PR Australia, has been awarded the Atticus Award in the Corporate Category for ‘State of Change: The Parker & Partners Guide to Working with an O’Farrell Government’.

The WPP Atticus Awards are exclusive to WPP companies worldwide, and recognise excellence and original thought in communications services. Parker & Partners is the only Australian winner for 2011. WPP is the world leader in marketing communications services, made up of over 300 companies and 146,000 employees.

‘State of Change’ was published in December 2010 and is Parker & Partners’ assessment of the policy priorities, personalities and political realities that were likely to shape the incoming government in NSW. It was written as a guide to what Parker & Partners anticipated would be a radically different approach to the way that business, the non-profit sector and others would engage with government in NSW following the NSW election.

”As Parker & Partners specialises in state and federal government engagement, media management, policy development, research and issues and crisis management, it is essential that we are constantly thinking about how the ever-changing political landscape influences the work and aims of our clients, our industry and ourselves,” said Sarah Cruickshank, Parker & Partners’ Joint Managing Director.

“We are thrilled to win this award as it reflects the fantastic response we have had to ’State of Change’ from the new NSW Government, our clients, and the industry.

“It’s a testament to the hard work and passion for politics our staff all have, and it’s gratifying to see, three months into the new Government, how many of our predictions have come to pass.”

Parker & Partners is a part of Ogilvy Public Relations Australia, a joint venture between Ogilvy PR Worldwide and the STW Group. Ogilvy PR is the largest and most awarded public relations agency in Australia, scooping more than 50 Australian and global trophies in the last two years, including the top honour amongst all WPP-owned PR agencies.
